Merchiston

This is the largest campus in the University for teaching, research, and knowledge transfer activity. We have around 4,000 students, several hundred full-time academic staff and professional support staff. Our students come from over 90 countries around the world, and this diversity enhances the learning experience for both students and staff, as well as University life. The campus includes three schools: Arts & Creative Industries; Computing; and Engineering & the Built Environment.

Merchiston campus brings together both old and new. The Schools of Engineering and the Built Environment, Computing and Arts and Creative Industries and our Students' Association call this place home, as did John Napier himself - he was born in 1550 in the tower that still stands in the courtyard.

Located in the lively Bruntsfield area, Merchiston Campus is home to art studios, engineering & design workshops, a computer games lab and a news room & film studios for all those creative types. It's also where you'll find the award winning 500-seater Jack Kilby Computing Centre - open 24/7 in our two main teaching trimesters.

The Merchiston co-location project was completed in September 2013. Creating a new multi-purpose space facing on to Colinton Road, new sound-proofed industry standard music studios and teaching rooms configured to the needs of the students based here.
